Waist to hip ratio and other 7 new measurements available

We have added new anthropometrical measurements that you can use to check your clients' progress.

Suggestions given by our clients are crucial so we can continue to improve. We often receive feedback from professionals from all over the world helping us understand how they work and how we can make ends meet.

This time, we have gathered a few suggestions of anthropometrical measurements.

Which measurements did we add?

Neck girth

Often referred to as neck circumference as well. A study states that there is a strong correlation between these measurements with obesity and overweight. Thus, it is often used for general screening. Men with a neck girth ≥37 cm and women with ≥34 cm require additional evaluation of their anthropometrical state.

Measuring unit: centimetres

Shoulder girth

Shoulder girth or circumference is the maximum circumference of the shoulders at the level of the midpoints of the right and left deltoid muscles. It is used primarily to quantify progress in body composition optimisation programs.

Measuring unit: centimetres

Elbow breadth

Also known as biepicondylar humerus breadth. This measurement is a good indicator of muscle mass since it is not affected by fat mass percentage. It's the linear distance between the lateral and medial epicondyles of the humerus.

Measuring unit: centimetres

Ankle breadth

Also known as malleolus diameter. It is the maximum distance between the most lateral aspect of the lateral malleolus and the medial aspect of the medial malleolus, in the same horizontal plane.

Measuring unit: centimetres

Visceral fat percentage

Although we have already available visceral fat without a measuring unit, to keep up with some professionals' suggestions who often use specialised equipment which provides this information in different levels, we've added a new measurement where this information can be registered in percentage.

Abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness

Abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness is substantially the belly fat, a combination of the subcutaneous fat and visceral fat. The lower the number presented on the device, the more defined the six pack will show.

Waist to height ratio

Waist to height ratio is calculated dividing the waist circumference (cm) by height (cm).

A value higher than 0.5 is suggested as a cut-off point to the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

Waist to hip ratio

Waist to hip ratio is calculated dividing the waist circumference by the hip circumference. This ratio is used for screening cardiovascular events in adults.

Cut-off values for cardiovascular diseases in women are 0.85 and in men 0.90. People with higher values than this have shown to have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
